UGH!!! It's that damn but again!
So now you have a fence sitter! And all you want to do is scream "GET OFF THE FENCE" - or run around holding a sign that says - Do not sit on fence, like the ones you see at the zoo.
Once someone is on the fence, it could take months or even years to get them off. IF they EVER get off! So what can you do about it?
I'm going to tell you the one thing that most consultants in our business completely miss. And it's going to sound like common sense, but I promise, you've missed it at least once!
You need to talk TO her. And I know. You're sitting over there reading this saying, "Of course I need to talk to her! Come on!! Tell me the real secret!" Well here it is. Ready?
The real secret is, that most of us do not talk TO potential team members, we talk AT them. We give them way too much information to process all at one time. And we don't give them enough time to voice their concerns! And when they do voice their concerns, we blow them off! Why do we do this? Because we are just so excited to have someone interested, that all of our logic and common sense just flies right out the door!
I know you're waiting for some magic words that will make people join your team. But let's be honest. Until you learn and start to actually talk TO your potentials, no verbiage will matter!
So now you're asking, so what do I do? Sit down with them. Ask them questions. And most importantly...STOP TALKING! LISTEN to what they have to say! Their objections are valid. And you have to make sure that they understand that! You have to find out WHY they are interested in the business to begin with. Get to their heart! Once you do that, and they feel valued, they will WANT to join your team. They will want to work hard for both of you! Because unlike the 15 consultants that she talked to before from various companies, you took the time to show that you care about her as a person, not just a number on your team.
I want to mention something else. If you haven't done this with current team members, I highly recommend it! Knowing why someone is in this business will really help you help them grow!
This one thing will make a huge difference and you will see your team grow like crazy! So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start getting to know some future team members!
