First, we need to wrap up some things about 2014 and chat about how to setup 2015 so that you can get started on the RIGHT path.
Then as the weeks go along, I will let you in some HUUUUUGE things we've got going on for ya.
2014 was a very challenging and big year for growth for my family, my business and me.
There were 117 items on my list that I wanted to accomplish in these different areas for 2014, too!
Yep, you read that right, one hundred and freakin seventeen…
That’s just crazy-sauce!
Can you guess how many I reached?
So that we can compare and see which one yielded results…
After that, we will wrap back around so I can share with you what I learned, where I grew and what I have found is going to be my main plan for my 2015 intentions in hopes that it will help you too.
Now, this may shock you, because is sure shocked the shit out of me...
I achieved 24 out of 117 of the items on my list...twenty...freakin'...four...
Now, you might be thinking, that's pretty good Alishia, that's 21%
BUUUUUUT look at this…
In 2013 I had 29 items on my list and I achieved 18 of them...
That's 62% ... in 2013, I achieved almost 3 times more intentions of my total number than I did in 2014.
And the MAIN thing I changed is HOW many items I had on my list.
See, with my 2014 intentions I thought that maybe having MORE on my list would mean that I would get a TON more that I would accomplish...
Here's the thing though...
YES! In 2015 I did end up with 24 instead of only 18 achieved on my list but this list was 4 times the size, so I thought that I would’ve achieved 4 times the amount...
So instead of reaching 24, I was thinking more like 72 would’ve been achieved because that’s the same percentage that I achieved in 2013…
Guess my thinking was WAY OFF...
Actually, something went wrong and it went wrong from the moment I set the 117 intentions.
- It was too much
- I didn’t have ALL of the list in front of me EVERY DAY
- I didn’t put all 117 items through the deathbed test
I am going to break this down so that I can make sure that you don’t make the same mistakes as me when looking at your intentions for the year.
It Was Too Much: When you have 117 different specific things that you want to do, I have now realized that it falls under the “Aim for everything, reach nothing” philosophy…
You want to have your intentions refined to a TIGHT list that when you look at them, you light up inside.
Make sure that they are STRONG inside your heart, that they are things that you TRULY want to achieve or crave to have in your life.
Get Them in Front of You: Yeah you hear this all the time, BUUUUT you HAVE to look at them EVERY day or else they are out of sight, out of mind.
This also gives you the opportunity to fine tune them to make sure what you have on there are the things you want as you live and change.
Make Sure They Pass The Death Bed Test: All you have to do is ask yourself, if I was on my death bed tomorrow, would I regret that I didn’t do it?
Now, not everything will be a yes, so you have to be HONEST with yourself here.
Only the things that are a resounding YES are the things you have on there…If they don’t pass the test, don’t even think about adding them to your intentions for the year.
Which brings me to a book that I’ve been reading called the 12 Week Year and the basic premise is that there’s no longer 12 months to a year, it’s 12 weeks…
This way, you get more done in a shorter amount of time…
It does put a fire under your ass to make sure you are TIGHT with your plans and how much time you have to get stuff done…
And it also makes you more efficient, so you are achieving more in less time.
So I would HIGHLY recommend that you only set your intentions for the next 12 weeks...
Don’t worry about the whole year, it’s too far away and it gives you WAY TOO MUCH time to slack, procrastinate and never do what it takes to achieve what you’ve set out for yourself.
I mean, let’s face it, that’s what happens to you EVERY year, right?
Well, not this time!
You have my awesome 3 step process to follow for your 12 week year of intentions (which ends on March 26th)…
And since you only have 12 weeks, you want to make sure that you pick 4 main intentions that you want to reach….
Personally…
Professionally…
Spiritually…
Marriage…
Etc. (Any area(s) that float your boat)
Check out the 12 Week Year – It will help you a TON!
Remember the point is NOT to overwhelm yourself with things, it’s to set an intention to achieve what’s MOST important and leave all the crap off your list that you’re not going to do anyways.
Next week, I’ll be chatting with you about my plan for 2015 so you can see how I have laid it out following these three steps.
For now though, I want to hear from you!
